|A Story of Homelessness
In deciding to tell the stories of six young homeless people
whose various life experiences have forced them to leave
the security of a family home we were in a very real sense
taking a similar 'detour' ourselves from our formerly predictable
artistic journeys. Each of us had strong personal reasons
for our early interest in basing this exhibition on the
issues faced by today's young people and it was a chance
meeting with the CEO of the Melbourne Citymission which
confirmed our decision and gave shape to our process.
Over the past 3 years we have grown as individuals and
artists as we have come to know these wonderful young
people who have most generously shared with us their
stories. In allowing us to use their images to create
an exhibition they are playing an important role in changing
widely held negative perceptions of 'homelessness'.
We thank Melbourne Citymission for believing in the
power of art to tell a story.
